Let's Geek Out Together
Okay, who else gets a weird excited feeling when a new piece of technology comes out? Or when they can tinker with a piece and it ACTUALLY works? Guess what? You are not alone.
Not only are there other “geeks” out there, but now they are meeting up to officially geek out together like one big happy tech fam.
Meet Geek Group, a fresh idea from two Comrades, Andy Gnidziejko and Roger Frybarger. They met in 2018 through Creative Comrades.
Andy is a rocket scientist who works on all things tech from 3-D printing to rocket model design. You may remember December 2018, Andy was our first Creative Comrades presenter at our new location College Street Brewery, showing us the incredible capabilities of 3D printing.
Roger is a computer scientist who has developed his own virtual whiteboard for educational purposes and constantly finds himself with a new tech project.
Together, the two joined forces to bring other like minded tech-enthusiasts together to collaborate, innovate and a space to tinker with tech. The group wants to delve into a range of technological-related skills including computer programming, 3-D Printing, Soldering, and Electrical Engineering, to name a few.
“I think both Andy and I felt that Havasu was lacking some kind of social space for this type of thing. This is not surprising since geeks and tinkerers often prefer to work on their projects by themselves. However, I think that both Andy and I feel that there is value in getting these solo tinkerers together and creating a space where they can share ideas, make connections and show off their projects.” -Roger Frybarger
Does this sound awesome to you? The first meet-up/workshop is happening January 2019.
This inaugural meet-up is focused on the miniature computer, Raspberry Pi. This tiny-yet-powerful device has been used to create retro gaming rigs, endless video players, and even as an interface to control LED lights.
